A link is something that connects two units or elements. A connection, a joint. As the language indicates, it springs from the concrete, something associated with ties or knots, as used when boats dock next to each other. But it also has a figurative meaning. We are all links for relationships in our lives, parts of interlinked chains. A link connects, but it can also be stressed, exposed to hard traction from opposing forces. Links may be inconspicuous, but they are nevertheless indispensable. Even in difficult situations bridge-building may make sense.
Link is a bronze cast of a 165 long 3.5 cm thick hemp rope spliced so that it forms a loop at each end. At the Grønningens exhibition 2021, the Link was installed suspended by a rope that was spliced in the same way as the Link, and so became itself a link in the room, spanning between ceiling and floor.
