etc (handheld)

The abbreviation etc. comes from the Latin et cetera, which means “and so forth” or “and so on”. When we are writing and finish with some hesitancy, we can end the sentence with three dots. They denote a statement, but also that there is more to come or that there is more beneath the surface ….

Eva Koch first began working with etc as a motif in 1990, when nine sculptural points in black rubber formed part of her pictorial work 12 gleams 9 points. Since then, she has executed several versions of the three points, often in metal.

etc (Handheld)) differs from previous versions. The work is made of wood from a linden tree that grew close to Eva Koch’s home. The diameter of the trunk measured about 130 cm, and Eva Koch has retained its slightly irregular circumference in her three manually shaped sculptures.

In the work the era of the ancient tree meets an attention to the continued statements of the future.
