Nini

The project was shown as a series of billboards using the same medium as advertising communication in modern urban life. The series presents a portrait series of Nini Haslund Gleditsch, who is wellknown in Norway for her lifelong political commitment and her work for peace.

The series is documentary and personal and is based on quotes from Nini Haslund Gleditsch and excerpts from her autobiography as well as on her own personal material and photographs.

As a young woman Nini Haslund Gleditsch was a member of the intellectual left-wing party “Mot Dag” [Towards Day]. During the Spanish Civil war she was in Spain, where, among other things, she worked for the Norwegian Aid Committee for children. In April 1940 she travelled with the Norwegian gold transport to Tromsø and accompanied the government to London. Nini Haslund Gleditsch did not return to Norway until after the war, where for many years she worked for the Central Statistics Office in Oslo. She continued her work for peace and disarmament in her retirement, when she joined “Grandmothers Against Atomic Weapons”. She travelled a good deal as a lecturer and authored many articles and a number of books, including her memoirs, which are entitled “Vær Utålmodig Menneske!” (Be Impatient).
